How Did I Do It?
Don’t let the photo fool you:

This was a big year for me. 3 MAJOR milestones accomplished.

In May, my pool was built- If you know me, this was my dream – not a family dream – so I agreed to make the money for it myself.

This week – The first week of December 2022 -I move from writer to published Author. I first had this dream crystallized in my heart at 23 – in Boulder, Colorado, when I came across Thomas Moore’s and Sark’s books.

Next week I finish L1 training in IFS – this gives me one technical “credential,” but what I’m really proud of speaks to HOW I did ALL of these things:

I invested in myself – and boy, if it were as easy as investing cash- wouldn’t that have been fun And yes, I’ve been my own “angel investor” for years. (I will acknowledge the literally inherited privilege of being white and educated and a small trust fund from my grandfather that helped me invest in my first home and pay off some of my school debt – these gifts were MONUMENTAL support). For many years, honestly, I debted – I borrowed and played a money shell game with myself. I stopped debiting to live or work (other than my home) in 2017.

Yes, I have invested in myself and my business – things that cost money: It’s almost obscene how much I spend on personal and professional and personal development and have for years:

Hand drawn and written multi color watercolor back ground with white lettering that says "How did I do it I invested in Myself - money and time, Love, Allison"
  • Coaching, reading, classes, learning, therapy, art supplies, black writing pens and journals, and more coaching – business coaching, money coaching, book coaching, profit first coaching, money coaching, creative coaching, IFS coaching, sales coaching – that’s what I can think of off-hand.

  • I’ve invested in implementation support: Podcasting producer who also emotionally supports my creative mojo and flow – not only does she create great sound – she gets the ebb and flow of creativity and believes in me. I invest in admin support, and off and on over the years, I’ve experimented with marketing support. And, of course, I invest in the systems and tech required to run my business – so many subscriptions and little expenses here and there that add up.

Most of these expenses have paid off – some have been monumental failures – expensive lessons.

I don’t spend lots of money on material luxuries, clothes, hair, lashes, nails – I do get good skincare and cheap makeup from the grocery store – but I don’t give a rat’s ass about a new car or highlights anymore.

But here is how I have really invested in myself even more than MONEY: TIME ON TASK. All the coaching and learning without implementation is just entertainment. I am a grand experimenter – and if YOU want to make your dreams come true, then be a daily experimenter – Time on task, over and over.

What I really invest in is Time on task:
🕰️ Time spent doing my nourishing habits (reading, writing, moving my body, journaling, parts work, drinking water, etc.).
🕰️ Time spent sharing my heart and showing my work – thinking and doing things that hopefully serve my audience and clients.
🕰️ Time Practicing my skills in real-time – not waiting until things are perfect. (The hours – and I mean HOURS I spent coaching my ass off and doing IFS as a coach, client and student have been more effective than any class or training).
🕰️ Time resting and recovering and NOT working.
🕰️ Time learning how to allocate and track my money. This year I’m taking my books back from my bookkeeper to master the daily nuances of my finances- more Time spent ahead).
🕰️ Time serving clients, Time making offers.
🕰️ Time doing the learning and then DOING what I learn.
🕰️ Time writing – every single day. Making it just what I do.
🕰️ Time healing my nervous system
🕰️ Time doing boring stuff – no one sees over and over and over and over.
🕰️ and, yes, time-wasting (playing dumb video games, watching tv, trolling on Twitter, to name a few). Time to recover from all the time I invest doing Time on task stuff.

You don’t have to bet on yourself the exact ways I do. You don’t have to invest in yourself the way I do. But Oprah isn’t coming. Life isn’t the “Field of Dreams – where if you build it, they will come.

You do have to choose your actions, attitude, and investments – bet on yourself. No one else’s bet will be stronger, and one day you will look up and see your long tail of accomplishments and be deeply proud. If you want that for you, I want that for you – but wanting isn’t enough. So put the Time on task.

I’ve been in business for 17 years.

17 years I’ve learned and unlearned and found a framework that’s worked for me.

It’s one that allows me to keep myself balanced and sane and focused in my business.

It’s one you can use too.

It simply cultivates both the BEING and the DOING in our lives so we can really get to the secret sauce of what we have to offer this world.

I’m giving you a quick rundown of this framework in this show, specifically I’ll share with you:

1:01 – An announcement of my NEW masterclass (March 13,2021 – contact me if you want in)

2:03 – A deep dive into this business model that I use, starting with the “BEING” side

8:02 –  A look at the 4 pieces of the “DOING” side that creates a successful business

10:54 – How I want us to reclaim sales

16:17 – How you can go deeper into all of these ideas

This is just the tip of the iceberg, but it’s been the greatest framework for myself and my clients – would love to know what insights it brought forth for you.

I can’t want it more than my clients or students do. Stacy Nelson and I were having our usual morning chat. Really, it isn’t HARD… But it is Work. Lots of work.

Play the long game.
Do the work
Do the work more.
Don’t quit.
Take the time it takes…. And it takes time.
Practice.
Practice more.
Play.
Experiment.
Rest.
Work alongside awesome people.
Invest
Invest again.
And again.
And again.
Celebrate.
Fail. And celebrate that, too.
Dive in to the deep end completely.
Be responsible.
Give more than you take.
Give more.
Do the work.
Do the work more.
Don’t ask questions you can find the answer to on Google (thanks Varian Brandon).
Research
Research more.
Test the research.
Give it time.
Take a break.
Dive back in.
Drink good coffee or tea.
Share your heart.
Show your work.
Be visible.
Learn in front of people.
Do more work.
Meditate.
Pray.
Give thanks.
Give more thanks.
Give appreciation.
Give acknowledgement.
Give back.
Save.
Spend.
Pay your taxes on time if you can.
Put the sledgehammer down and be kind to yourself.
But keep going.
Be committed.
Have fun along the way.
Laugh tons.
Believe.
And do the work.

I was discussing various programs with Stacy Nelson this morning. I have a retreat in a few months and both of us are on deck to do larger events this year. And….. while at first it feels daunting… one thing I KNOW to be true is that it is ALL ABOUT CLIENT CREATION. One conversation at a time. Just like Rich Litvin and Steve Chandler write about in The Prosperous Coach.

I have a hair up my butt about this because I’ve seen people I love and care about toss out events via links or facebook etc, build pretty web pages etc…and wonder why their retreats and rosters are empty. I see them get CRUSHED and HEARTBROKEN. They build something beautiful and then NO ONE COMES… It doesn’t work that way.

I used to whine about client creation — I admit, I wanted it to just happen. I wanted people to just come knock on my door and say, “Allison I want to work with you and pay you the big bucks to do your thing.” And…sometimes, they do. AND…. for everything I create…for every ounce of me that wants to share my gifts with the world I still have to be the person both inside and out that LOVES the process of creating clients. Michelle Bauman taught me that.

“Oh I LOVE filling events!” she said, ‘I love creating clients. And.” she added, “run through the finish line.”

And when I adopted that mindset, it really did become fun, and easier.

I add one step to the 4 step process in the book The Prosperous Coach written by Rich Litvin (one of my coaches) and Steve Chandler. Here are the steps I take:

How one PRosperous Coach creates Clients by Allison Crow

    • 1. Call in clients energetically and activate sacred contracts via meditation…. if I can lay my ass in the grass to do it…it works even better. I see their hearts and mine, in the form of 2 lights becoming one…. and I solidify and create the relationship energetically and spiritually first.
    • 2. Connect ~ CH 17, pp73 – just go be with people. Talk to them Be interested in them. Really listen and see them. Not in ORDER TO… because that energy sucks. But, because everyone wants to feel interesting and special. Magic is able to arise when a foundation of connection starts a relationship.
    • 3. Invite ~ CH 18 pp 75. Would you like help with that! This week I had an unusually empty schedule. So I created an invitation on facebook to GIFT 7 sessions away. This isn’t always the way I invite. In fact, rarely do I do things this way. I didn’t do this for client creation really, I did it because I was getting BORED. I wanted to PLAY and stir up something fresh and new. And Spirit helped me remember that I am on FIRE and in FLOW when I am on and after coaching. So with this offer I stepped into the flow of both giving and receiving. I created a filter via an application for the 7 sessions…. and I ended up filling my week quickly. I had a little space for overflow and ended up scheduling a few into the first week of April.
    • 4. Create ~ Ch 19. pp. 78. In I dive, as if each person were a 50k client…giving them my whole heart on these calls. And yes… I’ll brag… I’m good. I’m good at filtering for my people (most of the time)…and because of that… I’m good with really helping and astonishing the beautiful soul on the other end of the phone. I always approach these calls with NO attachment to the outcome and I have NO intention of ever proposing on these calls.
    • 5. Propose ~ Ch 20, 21, 22 pp. 83. I go SLOW. I stretch myself and my client. I use my versions of some of the language in the book (p84). I want it to be a total hell yes for me before I propose…. and when I do…and if they say yes…I’ve learned to TEST THE YES. I’ve learned to make it a challenge. I’ve learned to not be attached to the yes or no. I get so many Nos. I get them all the time. I also get yesses now and then 🙂

There is no timeline….each of these is an organic step. I use my intuition over these steps…and most of all: I remember that these are people…human being with hearts, and dreams, and desires. And that makes me LOVE client creation (ch 24). It makes me love mingling with possibility. It makes me love inviting people to spend time together….on calls, at painting/coaching retreats…. and soon at larger events.

One connection and conversation…one HEART at a time.

You cant create clients if you have a stick up your ass.

Coaches….don’t make it so hard. Just go be human and present with other humans. Be Visible.  Share your Heart.  Show Your Work. Re-read the book. The appendix has some serious GEMS in it. Read that book–slowly… with a pen and stickies. Make your version of some of the scripts and language in the book. Track your steps & process…tweak it to make it your own. BE relentlessly YOU. Have some effing fun… enjoy yourself. Leave your fears at home and experiment…there is no failure in an experiment.

What questions do you have about client creation?
What are you doing to ENJOY client creation or are you MISERABLE doing it?
Are you making people feel like they are in a transaction or are you genuinely building relationships?
Where have you fucked up royally?
Where did you NAIL IT!?
Have you been avoiding client creation to build your website or brand or whatever?
What have you done to make the client creation uniquely YOU?

I’d love to hear…. and yes…even as a seasoned coach…. I still get to create clients….yes I love coaching…and creating clients is becoming just as exciting because a while back I decided it could be, will you?

Yep last week I was at the top of my game. I gave an exquisite and transformation and touching talk (youtube version here) at 4pc with Rich Litvin. It had a 1000 views in 2 days..and is still growing. I cashed 24k in coaching checks and set 5 appts for possible clients – men and women. To top it off, I rescued puppies! Like a ninja of life!

And then….

I rescued puppies. I went into the natural and healthy contraction right after an ebb. And I effing rescued puppies. As in 2.

And this week has been crap. I have been off and tired and pissy.

  • fight with husband and kid.
  • Lame host to guest.
  • short with clients, husband and all dogs.
  • road rage
  • crappy distracted calls due to puppy barking and my own dogs injuring themselves and bleeding mid deep moment with potential clients and amazing soul.
  • I got discouraged and embarrassed by the coaching industry.
  • I got anxious about filling my next program.
  • I got competitive and jealous of a colleague.
  • I had a desire for finding a mentor and all I could see was people’s shot instead of goodness.
  • I was lame in creating my magic with at least 3 of the 6 calls I did this week.
  • I fumbled through a group call I did for my Prosperity people. I even barked NO at a sweet Client when she asked me for something.
  • I’ve doubted myself a thousand times.
  • I did not exercise.
  • I had chick-fil-a for lunch and about 30 diet cokes so far this week.

I effing SUCKED.

And today as I was in overwhelm- I texted Monica Day and asked her for an ear… And a then some advice.

I asked for help.

This is the hardest thing for me to do.

And I did it.

I asked and she said yes. I vented for a few and she just held space and then I asked for advice and when I got off the phone… I took action on the advice.

I’ve put the word out for a part time puppy nanny to exercise and wear these mutts out while I’m on calls.

And I messaged a woman who is living a life and running a unique business similar to what I creating and asked for a talk.

I put my husband in charge of the big dogs and I took the puppies out back and wore their asses out.

Now all are sleeping and I can think.

I sucked this week and it is ok to suck. I want to tell you that sometimes this path, and this life, and this business will suck. YOU will have sucky calls and serve like an ass instead of like the heart you really are.

That is all part of the gold of this prosperous journey.

I’m a better coach today because I rescued the dang puppies that overwhelmed me. I now have a tiny inkling what it might be like for moms and dads juggling kids alongside life and work.

Because I suck and allowed myself to suck… I am officially awesome. (See my smile peeking through).

Because I asked for help… I have relief from my suckiness.

You are not alone. Sometimes it just sucks. And it ALWAYS gets better.

And it gets better FASTER when you ask for help.

Chin up butter cup. I love you. 💛
